Large Scale Transformation to increase the Adaptability of your Organization
The ability to adapt is the only sustainable competitive advantage now and in the future. Organizations need to train their adaptive muscle constantly in small ways to be able to thrive when disruption hits. I design and support Leaders and their teams to train their adaptive muscle.
Your competitors can copy nearly everything in a short time frame, from innovative technical designs, through marketing formats to smart processes. What they cannot copy is the ability of your team to collaborate and find smart solutions to the challenges that innovation or market developments challenge your business with, or the relationships your team has built with clients and partners. The ability to constantly adapt their collaboration and relationships can be "trained" like a muscle in small ways. Then, your team can react swiftly in times of a crisis or when new opportunties show themselves.
Training the adaptive muscle is not a standard program. For me, it is very individual to this team in this market / situation right now - while a lot of the core elements repeat itself. There are core methods and approaches behind, that inspire the process, so that you can profit from a learning curve of other teams. The Art is to create a stage for the team and help them define their own path, not create a program that is executed. This is way more sustainable.
I love to get started with the Executive and their Leadership Team in an Offsite, to define the desired outcome and the approach they feel comfortable with. In a next step, we involve more people and grow the effort from there, in a co-creative and ecosystemic way. If needed, I can be on stage to design, coach or facilitate. Often, and more over time, I support the team to co-create and execute by themselves. This builds step by step the adaptive muscle they need.
Pivot.Point Retreat
When an Executive, Leader or their team feel overwhelmed by the complexity and disruption they face, a retreat as a time out to regroup is very helpful. I create and hold the space for them, at my home base or at a location they prefer.
For an individual or small team up to 8 people: A retreat in my small village, with undivided attention to reflect where you are, what you face, what helps you and what is in your way can take 24 to 48 hours. You will leave centered and refeshed. We can focus on you and your inner development. And amend that with a rough design of how to engage your team to bring the results into your everyday. For an individual or team of any size: we retreat to any location and reflect deeply about the situation and needs of the team and the organization. We co-create steps forward and set up structures to bring the ideas to life. This offsite is engaging and co-creative, seeding and nurturing adaptibility in the team.

You will leave with a clear focus on your purpose after 3 days of being present and disconnected from the hectic of your everyday.

2019 | PhD on Adaptive Organizations at the University of Wuerzburg
The logic of researched and described management and leadership theories must evolve in the age of digitalization. The original research question of “implementing strategic decisions in for profit companies efficiently” does not fit the reality of disruptive changes in the VUCA world. The thesis is brave and precious as it helps to reveal and close the gap between new developments in the business world and missing theoretical concepts in the management, leadership and organizational sciences. The first part of the thesis summarizes state of the art insights concerning strategic decision making in companies, global megatrends as framework conditions and change management as implementation support. This holistic view allows the conclusion that the research question at the start is solving a 20th century challenge, which does not provide helpful answers for the age of digitalization. This results in a development of the research question to “How can an adaptive Organization be created and nurtured?” This type of organization is designed to not only survive, but indeed benefit from the disruptive changes. These use the disruption to find new answers to continuously developing customer needs and for the internal organization. Adaptive organizations need to be reflected in 5 core dimensions, which are analyzed and developed in the main part of the thesis. All of those are in a continuous development and it is not yet clear, which methods will sustain. The last chapter provides guidance in the spirit of a holistic transformation management, how to start developing the adaptability of an organization. The thorough discussion of a wealth of concepts and approaches combined with the extensive practical experience of the author allows a more profound approach to the research question than a strictly academic research. Systematically grow Organizational Development as strategic practice
Support a multinational corporation to establish Organization Development (OD) as a strategic core practice to achieve their long-term aspiration
De-mystify OD, identify talent and good practices, establish a frame and develop the community to support, design, share and nurture OD as a practice on all levels. From working in the system, e.g. facilitating Continuous Improvement activities in a factory, to working on the system, e.g. designing a new business model for a new market - all elements need to fit together to give their business the tailwind they need for the adaptive challenges they face. I contribute by facilitating a community of OD Experts from different Businesses, offering an "OD Practitioner Lab" for active OD Practitioners to align and calibrate their practices, to creating a learning program for all employees to de-mystify OD and help everyone to contribute in small ways and train their adaptive muscle.
